Our story
SINCE 1994
BBC Tavern and Grill was founded as the Brandywine Brewing Company Restaurant and Brewery in 1994 in the location which currently houses Pizza By Elizabeths, just up the street from our current location. We loved making our own beer on the premises and pairing our unique brews with our food made from scratch. BBC even had its own tap at the home of the Philadelphia Phillies in Citizens Bank Park. We enjoyed great success serving tens of thousands of our friends, neighbors, and tourists for over 10 years until an agreement was made with the landlord for us to move.
In September of 2009, in what can only be described as one of those ‘only in Delaware’ type of stories, we re-opened in the space formerly occupied by Pizza By Elizabeths, thereby closing the loop on the swap of locations. Unfortunately, there was not enough space to house the brewery, which was sold and shipped to western Canada -it’s new home. While we miss making our own beer, we now carry 16 beers on draught and over 50 in the can or bottle. We are proud to support a number of independent local breweries and distilleries to help keep the local brewing community healthy and strong.

We take pride in serving only the freshest food made from scratch from the freshest ingredients. We are known for several of our items which we have had on the menu for over 24 years, including our huge plate of Jam Joes Nachos, our Corn and Crab Soup and our Hot Soft Pretzels served with our homemade apple and horseradish mustards. We consistently win Best of Delaware awards for everything from our Buffalo Wings to our guest bartending philanthropy program.
Without a caring staff, a restaurant is just a building with four walls and a bunch of equipment. Every employee at BBC takes pride in being part of the BBC Family. Many staff members have been with us for years and are the heart and soul of BBC. From the dishwashers and cleaning crew who keep everything clean and sanitary to the hosts who greet you at the front door, to the cooks who prepare each meal as if it were for family, to the bartenders who make and serve each drink with care.
